Vecinos Community Work Focus Areas
Your dues support the essential services that keep Akumal Norte safe, clean, and independent

Security: Vecinos maintains and staffs the security gate (Pluma) at the entrance to Akumal Norte. Between the Pluma and the Guardia Nacional, housed in the Community Center Building in Yalku Park, Akumal Norte is the safest community in the Riviera Maya, benefitting both residents and guests.

Infrastructure: Vecinos maintains our road, topes and solar lights, as well as all signage in the community. The road is kept in good repair for vehicles and pedestrians, with environmentally friendly solar lights enhancing safety and beauty while not disturbing turtles in nesting season.

Governance: Our relationships with government entities are essential to maintaining our independence as a community and preserving our unique status. The Vecinos Government Committee manages and develops these relationships, which touch almost everything Vecinos does.

Environment: Akumal Norte is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, including Yalku Lagoon, Half Moon Bay, and, of course, our beloved sea turtles. But all of these gift are threatened by waste generated by our community and the Akumal Pueblo. It is up to each us to be responsible stewards of our environment and preserve it for ourselves and those who come after us.

Parks and Common Areas: In addition to our road, Akumal Norte's common spaces include two parks: Don Pablo Bush Memorial park at the point at the south end of Half Moon Bay, and Yalku park, where our Community Center Building and the Guardia Nacional are located. Vecinos leads efforts to keep these shared spaces clean and usable for the benefit of all.
