CFE and Vecinos:
Working Together to Address Electrical Service Interruptions
Over the past three months, our community has experienced multiple electrical disruptions, including blackouts, power failures, cable cuts, downed power lines, and damaged poles. The situation worsened after Hurricane Beryl, which, fortunately, was only a Category 2 hurricane. A stronger storm could have been devastating given the already fragile state of our electrical infrastructure.
These persistent issues have caused significant inconvenience and hardship for residents, visitors, and tenants. In a tourist-oriented area like ours, these problems negatively impact the image and appeal of our community.
Despite repeated reports, complaints, and requests for assistance, the situation has remained unresolved. Recognizing the severity of the problem, our community, led by your Vecinos association, took collective action. We filed a formal complaint with the ComisiĆ³n Federal de Electricidad (CFE) and submitted a letter with 180 signatures, each representing an electrical meter, to express our deep concern and dissatisfaction with the ongoing electricity issues.
In our letter to CFE, we requested the following actions:
We are pleased to report that CFE responded promptly to our request, and we secured an appointment to present our concerns directly. During the meeting, we provided a detailed map of Akumal highlighting the areas most affected by these power issues.
CFE has agreed to dispatch technicians and supervisors to conduct an exhaustive review of our electrical infrastructure. They will develop a detailed work plan to begin addressing these issues, though we understand that the process will take some time. Nevertheless, this is a significant first step toward a lasting solution.
We will continue to keep the community updated on progress.
