Akumal Norte Parks and Common Spaces

Keeping Our Shared Spaces Clean and Usable

In addition to our road, Akumal Norte's common spaces include two parks: Don Pablo Bush Memorial park at the point at the south end of Half Moon Bay, and Yalku park, where our Community Center Building is located. Vecinos leads efforts to keep these shared spaces clean and usable for the benefit of all.

Community Clean-ups

Vecinos sponsors and coordinates several Community Clean-up Days each year, where neighbors come together to keep our community beautiful. Donors and local businesses (especially La Buena Vida restaurant) provide workers with snacks and lunch. Each clean-up produces ten or more truckloads of trash and debris to be hauled away. The result is a cleaner community and fantastic community pride and spirit!

Community Center Building

In 2020, Vecinos, with the help of generous donations from community members, completed construction of a Community Center Building in Yalku park. Since then, the building has been the home of the Guardia Nacional, which helps make Akumal Norte the safest community in the Riviera Maya. The building includes offices and a 50-seat community room. When the Guardia Nacional relocates to the Pueblo in the future, the building will be available to the community for meetings, classes, and other events.

Yalku Park Improvements

Yalku Park is green space devoted to Akumal Norte community use. Our vision is for the park to maintain its flora and fauna and give people a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Akumal Norte. Strong, beautifully maintained parks promote strong communities.

    Park Improvement Programs

    • New benches
    • Bird watching in the park and mangroves
    •  Building of platform centrally located in the park for Maya Culture Ceremonies and citizens to enjoy with morning programs such as yoga
    • Area for community mulch program
    • Defined pathways and benches for enjoying the park
    • Trees and plants labeled for identification

Parking Lot for Yalku Lagoon Tour Vans

    • Tour vans for Yalku Lagoon were parking on the street, creating a nuisance and blocking access by emergency vehicles
    • Vecinos convinced Xcaret Yalku to build an off-street parking lot to take the pressure off the road
    • Lot is unobtrusive and blends with the character of Akumal Norte
    • Opened in September 2022
