Website Messaging System Activated

Contact any Vecinos Member From Our Website

There is an email messaging capability contained within our membership management software, Wild Apricot, that many members may not be familiar with. The Vecinos Board feels it can be a helpful means of member-to-member communication, with some caveats.  Here's how it works.

The messaging capability is located in the “Member Area” dropdown within the “Member Directory” section of the website. It is visible only to Vecinos members who log into the website. You can select a person you wish to message and the system will send an email to them without showing you their email. This might be used if you don’t have contact information for a neighbor or need to know who owns a certain property. You can only message one person at a time. There is no ability to select multiple recipients.

Here is what you see when you click "Send Message". The system does NOT reveal the your email address to the recipient and it does NOT reveal the recipient’s email address to you. If you wish someone to know your email address, you must enter it in the "Reply email" field of the message.

Here's what the recipient gets in their inbox. The messages are sent from admin@vecinosakumalnorte.org, but a note in the body says that it's being sent on behalf of the sender.  The emails are not official Vecinos business and do not imply any Vecinos endorsement or approval.

Important notes:

  • You can opt-out of this system if you don’t want neighbors to be able to reach you in this way. Simply click the link at the bottom of the email or email admin@vecinosakumalnorte.org and ask to be opted out.  If you opt out, you won’t receive any messages of this kind
    .
  • The messaging system allows Vecinos members to be reached whether or not they are reachable on the WhatsApp group  For example, if there’s a problem with your property, and someone who doesn’t know you wants to tell you about it, this will help them to reach you privately.

  • The messages aren’t completely private.  The website administrator has the ability to these messages should they choose to search for them (although there would be no reason to do that.) Just FYI.

  • We consulted with the Vecinos’ attorney who confirmed that this capability does not violate anyone's rights under Mexican law, but he suggested that we present this for a vote at the next General Assembly meeting, which is currently scheduled for next February.  We will put that on the agenda.

If you have any questions about this email messaging system or if you wish to opt out, please contact admin@vecinosakumalnorte.org.
