Discover Low Tide Akumal!

A Marine Biology Adventure for Kids

In the beautiful coastal waters of Akumal, Mexico, Low Tide Akumal offers a unique and hands-on marine biology experience designed especially for children. At the north Akumal tide pools, the ocean recedes and reveals shallow pools of seawater where young explorers become real marine detectives, discovering the incredible life that hides along the shoreline.

During this tide-dependent class, local resident Janna Alcaraz guides kids in search for fascinating sea creatures such as crabs, starfish, chitons, tiny juvenile fish and many other exciting creatures using their own animal charts to track what they find and turning learning into a game filled with excitement. Each child also receives a Jr. Marine Biologist certificate and stickers to take home.

The experience takes place during mid-low tides, perfect for children to learn about the rhythms of the ocean and its creatures.

This two-hour adventure is bilingual (English and Spanish), family-friendly, and limited in group size to ensure a personalized and engaging learning experience by the sea.
