After great anticipation, La Piccolina has finally opened. Edgar Ym, the owner is so pleased to finally be able to make his delicious pizzas.
Edgar has a long history in working in restaurants. He worked for 3 years in Costa Rica, in an Italian place. He also worked in the USA for 4 years in an Italian restaurant and made pizzas in Italy for 3 years. That's a lot of experience that gave him the knowledge to open his place in Akumal. Pre-pandemic, Edgar had a pizza place in the Grand Sirenis complex. Unfortunately, like so many small business, he closed but continued on with his property management skills.
Now on to the La Piccolina. Right now, it is all take-out sold by the slice, $50 pesos each. The pizzas are thin crusted with a delicious sauce and a fair amount of cheese. The basic menu includes pepperoni and cheese pizza, a ham and pineapple pizza, and a vegetarian choice. There will be specialty pizzas that will change daily. While we chatted, Edgar made 3 large sheet pan pizzas, and it was 3 PM with people stepping up to the counter.
La Piccolina's hours are from 9 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday through Sunday. At this point, he will just be open for take-out. He plans to hire people for delivery, but as with any new business, he's working things out slowly to make sure he makes the right decisions. There is not a telephone number available to order ahead. I am sure that will be available in the future.
I ordered a slice of the mushroom and cheese pizza, and the ham and pineapple. Both were delicious and I cannot wait to go back for a chance to try others. Today a bar-b-que sauce pizza was available.
