Vecinos Board Meetings are Now Open to all Members

Increasing Our Transparency and Communication

In the spirit of transparency and openness, Vecinos is opening its Board meetings to all Vecinos members via Zoom. Our next Board meeting will take place on Thursday June 11 at 3:00 p.m. Akumal time. Only Vecinos members may be admitted to the Zoom meeting. If you are not a member, please join us at this link. Vecinos members may attend the meeting via Zoom using a link that will be posted on the website home page and on the Owners' WhatsApp group before each meeting.

We will begin the Zoom call with a 15-minute open member question-and-answer period. After this, the meeting will be called to order. Members may continue to listen in, but the meeting will be closed to further comments as we conduct our Board meeting as usual. Any questions we can’t answer immediately will be noted and addressed later. Questions we’re unable to get to during the meeting, or that arise afterward, may be directed to Vecinos Secretary Liane Perry.

This is an experiment, so we may adjust the format or frequency of future open Board meetings based on our experience.

The Board occasionally discusses matters that are sensitive and must be handled privately. After all other topics are discussed, we will close the meeting to the public and discuss any such matters in closed session. We will include these topics in the published minutes with whatever level of detail is appropriate.

Potential sensitive topics include:

  1. Information that could compromise the security of North Akumal (e.g. exposure of known vulnerabilities).
  2. Information that could compromise sensitive discussions or negotiations with (e.g.) municipal, state, or federal government agencies, or other civil associations.
  3. Information that could compromise active contract negotiation or procurement activities.
  4. Personal member information, including member financial data and all other member information whose exposure is contrary to Vecinos’ privacy policy.
  5. Information regarding unannounced personnel decisions or actions.

We hope this open meeting format will foster more transparency and encourage more participation from the community in Vecinos matters.
