Rentals at Casa Fortuna have gone up since we invested in taking the property "off-the-grid" and began promoting the property to travelers interested in sustainability.  Anyone interested in converting your own property to  "Green Property" should feel free to contact me or my husband, Alex, for details on the upfront investment required and the ROI we've seen on our investment.

Here's a post from the CEA blog that describes some (though not all) of the work we've done at the house:

Our experience has proven that sustainable property management is not only good for our local environment, it's also a great way to promote your rental property.

Thanks, Lisa. We're interested in sustainability - and in saving money, too! But when we explored solar panels, we were told our roof footprint wasn't suitable, which surprised me. We installed "bio-digesters" to treat sewage and we use gray water to irrigate the garden, but that's about it. We'd love to do more, but we don't live in Akumal full time, so we don't want to add complex systems that might create a maintenance headache. Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks! Neil
